Lake Winnipesaukee Golf Club Internship Offering 2024
LWGC is seeking motivated and hospitable team members seeking experience in the hospitality field. Come and work in one of the best environments around where you are treated with respect and the work you perform is valued.
Club Facts:
Lake Winnipesaukee Golf Club is a breathtaking private golf club in the Lakes Region of New Hampshire. The property is nestled over 700 lush acres with the course itself occupying over 400 acres. The 18-hole golf course is beautifully manicured, where the indigenous wildlife can be seen frequently.
The clubhouse held its grand opening on July 4, 2004, presenting its members with a flagstone façade, wood-paneled interiors, and luxurious, one-of-a-kind furnishings. The clubhouse exterior is designed to give the feel of old New England, with the wood shingles and deep green trim, it blends in with the mountain setting. The views from the clubhouse interior include sweeping views of nearby Rust Pond in Wolfeboro, many of the golf holes and the White Mountains – in particular Mt. Washington. Lake Winnipesaukee Golf Club has been named one of the top ten new private golf courses in the country by Golf Digest. LWGC has hosted the New England Open and several amateur championships.
The scratch kitchen is led by an Executive Chef and a team of professionals with an ever-changing menu. The club is open May – Oct with the peak season being June, July and August serving lunch, formal and informal dinners, and specialty events with creative menus. LWGC hosts corporate golf events, private dinners and events, and member events.
LWGC is in the summer resort area in the town of New Durham, NH and is minutes away from Lake Winnipesaukee, 40 minutes from Concord, Portsmouth and 1 ½ hours from Boston.
Objective:
LWGC will offer a comprehensive internship program with the goal of obtaining a realistic understanding of the hospitality/private club industry with an emphasis on food and beverage. This will be achieved through a hands-on experience and learning practical management practices. This experience will allow for an understanding of daily clubhouse and club operations in a controlled and nicely paced environment.
The Program:
We are in the people and service business and the primary objective of the intern team is to help stabilize the dining operations while providing quality services to the membership, their families and guests. It is my firm belief that the dining facilities are the heart and soul of any club operation. It is also my belief that the most knowledge gained is by serving, learning and listening to the members and management of the club. You will not learn club operations by sitting at a desk or reading a book. The interns will work as servers for the restaurant with exposure to other departments as follows:
- Service, Bar Management, Kitchen Operations, Outside Events, Internal Marketing, Website and Newsletter, Outside Golf Operations, Grounds Operations, Clubhouse Operations, Accounting and Administration.
Under each area there are minimum competencies to learn in order to obtain a general understanding of the entire operation. The intern’s initiative and curiosity will drive their learning. They will get out of the internship what they put into it. Asking questions and participating in activities and functions will facilitate their personal and professional growth. This may seem extensive however, it is only an introductory look at the hospitality and private club business.
Other Pertinent Information:
- Start date: May 2024 (start date may be flexible)
- Ending Date: September 2024 (ending date flexible, understanding school begins in September)
